On Unexpectedly Finding The Perfect Sentiments in a Hallmark© card

I don't know about you, but I agonize a bit when I need to purchase a birthday card. And not just because they have become obscenely expensive (I saw one for $7.99 at Walgreens yesterday) but because I want to make sure that it is THE PERFECT CARD.

The card that will make everyone laugh.
or
The card that will express everything that is in my heart.

The card that will let the recipient know that I am THE BEST FRIEND EVER/BEST DAUGHTER EVER/BEST SISTER EVER....
or
The card that will let the recipient know that he is THE BEST SON EVER.

I looked at a lot of cards that were very nice. I almost bought one; the message was nearly right, along the lines of how proud of him his Dad and I are.

But I kept scanning the rack for something better.

I almost didn't find it.

And then, tucked behind some envelopes, I spotted it:

FOR OUR SON

ON HIS BIRTHDAY

You know you're blessed
when you have a son
you really believe in -
when you look at him and see,
above all else,
the talent and the determination
to accomplish whatever
he puts his heart and his mind to.

That's the kind of son we have in you,
and if we could wish just one thing
for you on your birthday,
it would be this:

May you always believe in yourself
the way we believe in you.

Happy Birthday, Andrew. We know you will do great things, because you have already begun to do so.

You certainly did it. You found the perfect card. I know your son will feel loved and appreciated.

Now, me, on the other hand, I search for that perfect card for that certain someone, which says, "My love for you grows at the same rate as the number of the miles between us." THAT is the card I have trouble finding.

Aww, that's a wonderful birthday sentiment! :) Happy Birthday, Andrew!! :)

P.S. I LOVE picking out cards--but you're right, they are getting crazy-expensive nowadays.

It is difficult sometimes to find the perfect card but that has a perfect sentiment and he will be in no doubt that you are proud of him and that he is loved.
I have an Andrew as well, such a lovely name, I hope yours has a great birthday. xoxo ♥

Happy Birthday Andrew.

Do you want me to give him some driving lessons? :)

I don't try to find the perfect card. A nice picture and blank inside can be the best. Writing some thoughtful words inside is the best IMHO.

I guess you passed over those sexy babe picture ones. This year I got a number of cards with squirrel pictures.

Yes, that pretty much says it all. And isn't that we want MOST for our children? (that they will love, respect and appreciate themselves . . . and treat themselves with great tenderness)

I bet you go for "funny" most of the time, but I think that you definitely got the best card for the occasion. Best birthday wishes to Andrew. xx
