Victory Garden Idea Victorious

I'd intended to post about this fabulous campaign, Eat the View, designed to get the Obamas to promote organic gardening.

But instead, I'm very pleased to report that the dream came true. The NYT reports that the Obama family will be planting a vegetable garden at the White House.

Hooray!

What do you think about leaders who lead by example?

I think they ROCK.

And I think I'm going to send them a thank you note. I especially liked the final part of the NYT piece:

But the first lady emphasized that she did not want people to feel guilty if they did not have the time for a garden: there are still many changes they can make.

“You can begin in your own cupboard,” she said, “by eliminating processed food, trying to cook a meal a little more often, trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables.”

Good message, indeed. Even conservative mommies should agree with that advocacy.

I love it. I think for all the racket - the Obama's have truly restored something good to the White House.

A sense of reality is a good start!

I saw this story in The Times here today. Michelle was actually out there hoeing the plot! I hope that the green movement doesn't get lost in financial meltdown.

In other gardening news, my new raspberry canes are starting to send out little green shoots. That's exciting news in these parts!

As you say, I love that Michelle is side stepping the negative punditry. A garden is a GREAT idea and encouraging improved nutrition, even better.

That is fantastic news! I agree that it is great that they are leading by example. I wonder if this is the first garden ever grown at the White house?

Sister Michelle! I love my gardening, too! This year I`ll be planting carrots, peas, potatoes, onions, zucchini, tomatoes, strawberries (already in from last year), lettuce, leek...and I don`t even have a very large garden! It is fantanstic to go out and say, Let`s see, what shall we have for lunch? Zucchini pancakes perhaps? Or just strawberries with milk? Michelle, you`ll love it, and so will the girls!

Very good thinking, and who cannot agree more? The problem, however,in "trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables" is the lack of money in many families, especially nowadays. At least here in France, fruits and vegetables regularly on the table is an expensive thing to do.

I loved the pic! Hilarious!!!
