Where Would You Go?

Professor X and I were talking today about the prospect of a sabbatical in a few years. We definitely want to go back to Europe; the entire family loved being there. Rather than renting a house for 9 months and then roaming around from place to place for two months as we did previously, we thought it might be better to rent houses in different places for 3 months at a time and roam for a couple.

For some reason right now, I am obsessed with the idea of France. I blame Facebook. The advertising gnomes put an ad for a vacation home in Domme into my sidebar. That area is my idea of heaven. I also loved the buildings of nearby Sarlat and the countryside. So I am lobbying for a French locale as one of our three.

Where would you stay if you could spend 3 or more months? It's time to share your travel fantasies.

When the world was a calmer place, I fancied a mediterranean yacht/houseboat with extended stays in Sardinia, spending time in Athens and cruising the the islands and visiting Jerusalem. On a more domestic front, ever since the clusterfuck in the Gulf began, I have been quite nostalgic for the years and years of summer vacations spend on the shores of the Gulf in Florida and Alabama, so a three month visit in a beach house circa 1998 would also be lovely. Also, I'd like my 1998 bikini body back.

Lucky girl! I wish I could spend 9 months in Europe. I'm with you on France though. Maybe it's from watching the Tour de France everyday but it's getting me itchy to go explore the small towns and villages of the French Alps and Pyrenees.

What a wonderful thing to plan!

I would go back to Dijon. And I think I'd like to visit Hastings, England. And then maybe somewhere in Southern Spain so I could go to Morocco on short hops. Oh and I really want to see Portugal.

lucky you.
Ireland was a great place for us.
I was amazed by Slovenia - very alpine.
I've never been to Spain but I kinda like the music.

Finland, Sweden, Norway - never been.
Do you speak French?

Wait..are you saying there are other countries in Europe besides France?;-) I would do France for 3 months; Italy for 3, and Ireland or Scotland or Kent for 3 months.

England, Italy and Switzerland. France is close 4th. I am daunted by hearing so many complain of the rude treatment but I'm hoping that's more urban myth than reality.

Oh my gosh, I would SO stay in Hawaii. I've never been there, but for some reason I think I would love it and would enjoy the beautiful landscape sooo much. :)

P.S. I would make sure I stayed in Hawaii from January-March, too. :)

Tough choice, narrowing to three...hmmm...Tuscany region, Greek Isles and Ireland. Anywhere in Ireland. Give me a pub with traditional Irish music, and I'm there.

Have a wonderful time. I like the tree house shuffle idea - sounds like a little, no big ol' piece of heaven! You deserve it.

Just this weekend, there was an article in the Sunday paper about all of the great buys (relative, of course) in France at the moment. Chateaux, and the like. I was very keen on moving there asap.

My husband brought home an interesting magazine called The Monocle (or maybe just monocle?) that ranked the most liveable cities in the world. Munich was #1 and Copenhagen was #2. So maybe I'll try those two, plus Vienna. You will be proud to know that the only American city which made the list was Portland. On one hand that doesn't say much for the U.S. . . . but on the other, kudos to Portland.
