Fabulous Friends Facilitate Fun Fixations and Fetishes

I am extremely honoured to announce that I have received a lovely badge of fabulousness. To be clear, it is my blog which is labeled as fabulous, but I am basking in the reflected glory since I am its creator.

The Fabulous Bee Drunken, who gave me this badge, has challenged me to discuss five obsessions and then pass it on to five worthy blogs. I am carrying this out in my own bizarre way, which is undoubtedly why my blog is indeed so unaccountably fabulous.

1. Obsession by Animotion. I immediately thought of the fairly catchy song, and checked out youtube, where I found this totally cheesy video to share with you. To be honest, I hadn't remembered the name of the band. I have no memory of ever having viewed it before, but it will stick with me always from now on. I have not decided whether this is a good thing.

2. Obsession by Calvin Klein. Remember those funky ads? Thanks to the miracle of youtube, you can relive the thrill. I found one here. Five points if you can identify the famous actors who are in this one. I was surprised to learn it was them!

3. Obsession parody by Fry and Laurie. Embedded here for your enjoyment, this is the opener for season four of the funny men's show. You might correctly observe that I am obsessed with them. Is there a problem with that?

Kindly click on the montage to go to the video. For some dumb reason, I can't imbed it directly.

4. Obsession quote.
Anita Loos (1892-1981), a pretty fabulous screenwriter and novelist, observed "It's true that the French have a certain obsession with sex, but it's a particularly adult obsession. France is the thriftiest of all nations; to a Frenchman sex provides the most economical way to have fun." Nice. I'm obsessed with most French things, so this is a very good quote.

5. Obsession - a poem by Charles Baudelaire. Bee should appreciate this! Check out her blog's manifesto to understand why. Meanwhile, you can groove to this bizarre "virtual movie" of Baudelaire reciting his poem. It's actually Louis Jourdan speaking. I'm not really a big fan of Baudelaire. I wonder how many readers of Lemony Snicket's books realize that the surname of the family was inspired by the macabre writer.

As a mother of two, I'm mildly obsessed with the notion of giving equal time and attention to each child. Of course, neither child feels that I succeed. Oh well.

As a blogger who enjoys so many fabulous blogs, I am obsessed with sharing the love of this badge with them all. In that spirit, if you're a follower, please grab the badge and do the meme if feel inspired to do so. No pressure. Please let me know if you've picked up the badge by leaving a comment here. Smooches!

I'd like to introduce you all to some other fabulous blogs I've discovered as well. I hereby award the badge to them too. Beware - once you've surfed over to visit them, you may become obsessed with their brilliance.

I have no idea who the actors are, but I'm the Grammar Vandal's latest fan!

Heather Graham & our Che, Benicio del Toro...*smokin*

While the Fry/Laurie parody is delightful, the SNL "Compulsion" skit with Phil Hartman is a scream.

By the way, you are SO deserving of the fabulousness; congrats :D

Wa-hoo! Thank you very much for this honor and I will try to come up with a responding entry that appropriately demonstrates my fabulousness!

Jason, as himself said...

I like your obsessions! I probably shouldn't blog about mine.

Cheesey looking video but hey that was the sound of the 80's, big sounds on the keyboard and big hair.
Do you remember Utah Saints - Something Good is Gonna Happen, I loved that song?
I adore Steven Fry,sexy guy, he is the best and I like Hugh Laurie too, especially in costume dramas and comedy...he and Fry were fantastic in the Blackadder series. ♥

Oh my. I love that Anita Loos quote. It's true, I suppose, some wine, some bread, some sex. It's a date!

FF - Of course I remember that you gave me the Fabulous badge! (And I'm returning it to you because you deserve it.)

I love what you did with this. When we were on the London to Houston plane I saw another clip of a young Benicio -- from one of the Bond movies. As for the perfume, my high school boyfriend gave it to me and the smell immediately reminds me of "making out." (I think that was CK's point.)

I knew about the Baudelaire/Snicket connection. I was listening to one of those stories recently -- and was reminded of their cleverness and why both of my children adored them. Baudelaire wrote a lot of tosh, though. (He was drunk a lot, I guess.)

Thanks for the mention! :)

Although I seem to have taken my blogging title a bit too literally of late, and let it go a bit stale ...

Mrs. Chili - isn't GV great?! Loved the Obama sentence diagram post.

Bad Mom - trust you to know. Excellent work. Must check out Hartman. His death was a loss to humour.

Cashmere L - You are wonderful.

Jason - I think The Jason Show gives us all a pretty good idea about your obsessions. :-)

Dianne - don't remember that other song. Must go check. Nope. Fry and Laurie are GODS. Blackadder was fun - gave that to my Amazing Son for Christmas. That way I got to watch the whole series too. Clever, no?

Lisa - at first, I thought you were proposing this to me! Upon reflection, I assume you are just speaking generally, and will apply this plan to Mathman. Hee hee.

Bee - I love this: "tosh." You DO know that I am now aspiring to the Jane Austen badge, right? I am not holding my breath, though. I have a long way to go before I attain your excellence. XOXOX

Tartlet - nonsense. You are just letting us build up our appetites. I look forward to your next moan.

shepherdess - you're so welcome! I hope that you and your flock have been having happier times since your last post. And I look forward to reading about it all.
