They'd Better Laugh At My Son - But NO Talking!

I usually respect my children's privacy when it comes to blogging, but I've been bursting to share this news for a couple of weeks now, and I am sufficiently weakened by the strain to allow a smidgen of information with you.

MY CHILD IS GOING TO BE IN A PLAY!

A SHAKESPEAREAN PLAY!

IN A BIG SPEAKING ROLE!

AS A FUNNY CHARACTER, BEAUTIFULLY EMPLOYING HIS TALENTS!

Whew. Glad for that release. I might have exploded otherwise.

I will give you a hint about which character he will be playing: At one point, he'll be dressed in yellow stockings. Cross-gartered ones, in fact.

I am so tickled for him. As many times as I've seen the play, I never thought, "yes, indeed, some day I'll have a wonderful, clever, handsome son who will act in that role."

It blows my mind.

In other news, I see that Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig are playing on Broadway. We saw the signs advertising the upcoming run of A Steady Rain when we visited New York this summer, and wished it was on then. I loved the story about Hugh's response to an audience member's ringing cell phone during one of his scenes. Right on, Hugh!

I would just like to put the world on notice that if anyone dares to talk or allow their cell phone to ring while my beloved child is on stage, I am going to go Wolverine on their ass.

When cell phones were still rather new (at least to me) I had the mortifying experience of having mine go off while at an arts day vocal performance of a friend's son! I will remember that with shame and self-flagellation for the rest of my life! But it sure did teach me to double-check that the phone is off.

Fortunately, this episode pre-dated Wolverine as a household word, so I have no physical scars 8-).

I have NO idea who you are talking about!

congrats - so if he makes it into the movies someday you'll be on guard to keep those pesky annoying ringtones from disrupting my movie viewing??

Hopefully he will let you be his press agent for awhile.

JaPRA - Dank je wel! Is Roxi involved in the theatre program at her new school?

a tired wife - the google machine would tell you, but I will gladly share: the stockings are a comedic costume for Malvolio in Twelfth Night

lisleman - my baleful stare has been used at cinemas already, even without my offspring starring onscreen! :)

Dang, I was gonna say Malvolio and win the prize!

Wolverine!

Becky - dude, this is honor system. If you say you knew it was Malvolio, that's good enough for me. You win the prize - a ticket to see him perform. But...um....airfare's not included. If you come for BLOG CAMP PDX/'COUVE summer 2010, I will get him to perform the "Some are born great" speech for you.

You know we are there. :) And silent.

I am so there, playing the role of adoring friend-of-mom and proud teacher-of-youth. No phone, no laptop.

And if my kid ever gets a non-offensive, unobscene opportunity to be onstage, I will certainly invite you, too. ;)

I loved that Jackman did that and Craig supported him. It is bad enough having your phone go off but have the decency to switch it off!

I hope you remember us mere mortals when you're the mum of an Oscar winner!

WOOT!

(In a way, it would be tempting to see you go Wolverine . . . much as I respect and abide by the no-cell rule.)
